The General Stacks cover all the topics the libraries offer and are the library’s largest physical collection, located on the third floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons. Stacks Reference books are shelved with the General Stacks and are distinguished by their bright yellow sticker reading “STKRF”. General Stacks books may be checked out; Stacks Reference books may not be checked out and must be used in the library.

The Juvenile Collection contains children's literature and is located on the third floor of the GAC, before the “A” section of the General Stacks.

The Cookbook Collection, located in the Pit, contains cookbooks for a wide variety of cuisines, which are available to be checked out.

Course Reserves provide access to textbooks and course materials for some classes; items can be checked out for a few hours at a time. Request course reserve materials at the Circulation Desk.

The English Language Institute Collection, located in the Pit, contains materials geared to helping English language-learners improve their skills.

The GAC offers three DVD collections: the Film Studies Reserve Collection, which contains a broad array of films selected for their relevance to the history and teaching of film, including many award-winners; the General DVD Collection, which contains a variety of fictional, documentary, and instructional films; and the International Film Collection, which contains films created outside of the United States.

The Folio Books Collection contains books which are too large to fit onto the regular shelves and is located at the end of the shelving for the General Stacks.

The Leisure Reading and Graphic Novels Collections are located in the Pit and offer popular fiction and non-fiction titles, comic books, and graphic novels.

The Maryland Government Documents Collection provides access to the laws of Maryland, legal reference materials, and other state government publications. The materials are located in the compact shelves on the third floor on the south side of the building. We are a state depository library.

The Federal Government Documents Collection provides access to older federal government documents, including books, pamphlets, CDs, and DVDs. These are located in the compact shelving on the south side of the third floor of the library. Most newer federal materials are available online. We are a selective federal depository library.

The CD Collections include textual materials on CD, music CDs, and spoken language CDs. CDs are located in the compact shelving on the south side of the third floor.

The Periodicals Collections hold the physical journals and other periodicals we currently subscribe to or previously subscribed to. Recent issues from periodicals we are currently subscribed to are located in the Pit; older issues from current and past subscriptions are located in the compact shelving on the north side of the third floor, shelved alphabetically by title.

The Scores Collection offers a wide variety of musical scores for checkout; these are located in the middle of the General Stacks section, shelved under “M”.

The Reference Collection is a small collection of titles available for people to use within the library. It is located next to the Reference Desk.

The Equipment Collection has umbrellas, calculators, whiteboard kits, and other such objects available to check out. See the Borrowing Materials & Equipment page for more information about the types of equipment that are available for checkout.

The CRC Stacks Collection contains a wide variety of non-fiction books as well as novels written by US authors, all of which are generally intended for elementary through young adult readers.

The Easy Collection includes picture books and board books intended for young children through beginner readers.

The Caldecott and Newbery Award Collections each hold almost all of the winner and honor books of their respective awards.

The Environmental Collection contains fictional and non-fiction titles for young children through young adults which focus on the environment, conservation, and environmental activism.

The Foreign Language Collection contains primarily fictional books in languages other than English. The largest concentration of books are in Spanish, but languages from Greek to Khmer to Diné (Navajo) and many more are also present.

The Historical Fiction Collection contains works of historical fiction, arranged in chronological order.

The International Collection contains works by authors not from the United States, ranging from board books to young adult materials and including both fiction and non-fiction.

The Maryland Collection contains works for young children through young adults written by Maryland authors.

The Outdoor Education Leadership Collection focuses on mostly non-fiction materials covering outdoor education and outdoor leadership.

The Oversize Collection contains books too large to fit on regular shelves; most of these are giant picture books intended to be used when reading aloud to a group of children.

The Puppet Collection consists of a wide variety of hand puppets, which are available to be checked out.

The St. John Musical Instrument Collection is a small collection of musical instruments available to be checked out.

The Nabb Main Collection contains non-circulating material primarily focused on local history and genealogy. These materials are available for browsing in the Nabb Reading Room.

The Press Kit, Press Book, and Lobby Cards Collections bring together promotional materials for popular release films.

The Rare Books Collection contains rare and old books.

The SU Faculty Authors Collection houses much of the scholarship produced in physical form by SU Faculty, dating back to the early 1970s.

The Theses & Dissertations Collection houses the theses, dissertations, and doctoral projects written by SU students.

The Map Collections contain maps, including federal government maps.

The Microform Collections primarily consist of newspapers and old books preserved on microfilm or microfiche as well as US Government Documents stored on microfiche.

The Archival Collections include both the University Archives as well as the local history archives.

The Special Collections cover a broad range of materials of historical interest, from honors theses written by SU students to postcards from the 1800s to 20th century diaries and much more.

The Nabb CD Collection contains rare music CDs.

The Artifact Collections house a wide variety of physical artifacts representing primarily SU and local history.
