The SU Libraries offer many different types of spaces where you can study, whether you need a place offering complete silence or an active environment with lots of activity.
There is ample open study space on the first, second, and third floors of the Gurerrieri Academic Commons, as well as in the Curriculum Resource Center. These areas provide a wide variety of furniture types so everyone can find a comfortable place to work, including soft bench seating near the café, bar seating overlooking the central atrium, and many sets of tables and chairs of various shapes and sizes.
You're welcome to talk and collaborate at a moderate volume throughout most of the GAC and CRC. However, we do ask that you use headphones when playing audio or video content from a personal device so that you don't disturb others working in the library.
The reading rooms located on the third floor of the GAC — the areas through the double doors leading to the general collection shelves — are designated quiet areas and are not intended for group work.
The two large reading rooms on the third floor of the GAC are designated quiet areas. They're great for focused, individual work when you need a place to study away from distractions. You can work alongside your friends if you like, but please be considerate of others working in these areas and keep conversations to a minimum.
Most of the furniture in the reading rooms consists of large tables with plenty of space to spread out and built-in power outlets to charge your devices. If you would like to work at a desktop computer, there are several Windows PCs located in the southwest corner of the floor.
There are 13 study rooms of various sizes located on the second floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons. There are three room sizes available: large rooms seat 10, medium rooms seat 8, and small rooms seat 4. Study rooms are reservable by SU students, faculty, and staff.
Each room is equipped with a TV for displaying content from an electronic device like a laptop or tablet, as well as at least one wall-mounted dry erase board. If you need dry erase markers, you can check them out from the Library Service Desk.
Study carrels are enclosed desks meant for individual study. There are 28 reservable carrels available on the third floor in the Guerrieri Academic Commons in addition to many other carrels available on a first-come, first-served basis. All carrels in the GAC are located in the two reading rooms, which are designated quiet areas where noise is kept to a minimum.
Reservable carrels can be reserved for up to 14 days at a time. You can .
Library classrooms 117, 162, and 163 are available for individual or group study when classes are not in session. They are all located on the first floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons.
The schedule for each classroom is posted on an electronic sign outside the door, so you can check the next time the room will be in use.
Students, faculty, and staff can register with the Office of Access & Accommodations (OAA) to get access to our Accessibility Room. This is room AC 115 (view on ), which is located in the corridor to the left as you enter from the Route 13 side of the building. The room provides a quiet place to study, as well as computers with JAWS, Kurzweil Reader, and ZoomText software. For more information about the software available or for assistance using it, please contact the OAA.
Access to the Accessibility Room is controlled by card swipe, so please be sure to register with the OAA before visiting the library.
The SU Libraries Family Study Room, located in room AC 116, is a separate room set aside for use by caregivers who are current Salisbury University students, faculty, and staff, as well as those from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Wor-Wic Community College.
Priority use of this room is for students, faculty, and staff who are caring for children or vulnerable adults. If you are not caregiving, you may be asked to find another space if the room is needed for that purpose.
The Curriculum Resource Center, located on the second floor of Conway Hall, has several study spaces available for use by all SU students, including a reading room, group study areas, and study carrels. Note that Conway Hall is only accessible to those with a Gull Card.
